How close is humanity to destroying itself? A look at societal destruction through 1980’s pop culture.
An original piece created by the 2022-23 H2M Youth Devising Ensemble
“Oh Yeah, that’s a great question. Why don’t we ask the social pariahs what they think their spot on the social pecking order is?”
“That’s probably what won Reagan the election.”
Big hair, Power Suits, Shoulder Pads, Glitter.
Gold Chains, MTV, AIDS, and Leather. (And the War on Everything…).
The Hand2Mouth Youth Devising Residency ensemble extracted stories from one era for experimentation in another, and vice versa, and backwards, turning it upside down: A cross examination of the 1980’s and (the subtle differences of ?) today.
Is it really any better?
“The pressure was enormous but as years go on it gets better but it’s still…we’re still learning… all the time.”
“...if you just answer the question.”
“Why don’t you just answer the question?”
“Be honest. No big deal”.
“Yeah, answer it.”
“Just answer the question…”
“Talk to us”
“Answer the question.”
“Don’t be a jerk-”
“Come on, it’s easy, it’s only one question.”
Come be part of the experiment
Come be part of the past
