This March 2022 collaboration brought a two person team of leading U.S. ensemble theatre artists and directors Juli Hendren and Michael Cavazos to work with Belgrade’s internationally acclaimed women-led Dah Teatr to co-lead a workshop for young female creatives aged 15-50 in the capital, gathered via an open call. The workshop culminated in an original live performance made and performed by the workshop participants exploring themes and issues that were most pressing and powerful to them.

The U.S. team then traveled to historic Novi Sad to work with the city’s well-established cultural organization Kulturanova to co-led a workshop for a diverse and wide-ranging group of participants from age 15-45. All participants were creatives or artists in some capacity, which allowed people to connect and discuss artistic ideas they had already been thinking about. The project culminated in a public performance for the wider public and the participants’ communities. Since the conclusion of the project, the cohort of women in Belgrade have continued to meet and create together, and U.S. co-lead artist Juli Hendren returned to Serbia to connect with the group.
